Looks like the output contains the parameters used to encrypt and NppCrypt uses them again to decrypt. If I select this output, I can decrypt it.

When I select a text to encrypt it gives this output:

Okay, I reinstalled Notepadd++ with NppCrypt. The important part is the password, the program you use will decode all of that information once you provide the proper password (typically unless you get crazy with it). No you shouldn't need to remember any of that as long as you pick standard settings. odt (Libre default format), only Libre will open the password enabled file. docx file format (MS Word default ), both Libre and MS Office will open the password enabled file. Note: I use an older version of MS Office, which might help with Libre's compatibility to MS. I have never created a new password protected Libre file and then tried it with MS, but since MS it will open the Libre edited protected file, I would expect it to open a newly created one. I do this frequently with this drag-around-everywhere laptop which has Libre, and I use MS Office on my home desktop. When edited and re-saved by Libre, MS Word will open it correctly. Libre will open a password protected MS Word document. Office doesn't seem to do well with the ODF format. My experience has been if the document is saved in MS Office format when using Libre, then Office can open it.

I would recommend Notepad++ to most Windows users or TextMate to Mac users just because they are easy to use.
#PEAZIP PASSWORD PROTECT SOFTWARE#
Pretty much any modern text editor should have some sort of native or plugin for encryption that's a basic function now it just comes down to how much you know about the software you want to use. Here's where I'm going to confuse you - there are better packages to encrypt with but they would be things like Emac's/Vim/NetBeans/Bluefish - those are more programming IDE's than what your probably looking for and require a bit more knowledge to do anything you might want to do other than simple text entry. It doesn't matter what tool you use (Windows/Linux/Mac) as long as it supports the cipher you used to encrypt the file so there's no problem changing programs down the road if one stops working or getting updates.Ītom or Brackets would be a good examples, there pretty much mirror's of Notepad++. It didn't look like many text editors supported encryption. "Just about all of the other text editors that compete with Notepad++ also do encryption."Ĭan you name some please? I only found that Notepadd++ had this option. Does it mean I have to remember exactly what combination of options I used? What if I forget whether it was p=1 or 2? Or what if I encrypt with bcrypt and few years later the new version drop that algorithm. And now either NppCrypt itself or Notepad++ is gone.įor a second concern, look at this image please. But what if I encrypt some data with it and need to access it 5 years later. I tested it and it works great in the present. So I can easily use another program which is around and current. But for me it gave me peace of mind for a rare situation like this: Let's say I password a file with winzip but then don't open it for 5 years, and now winzip is out of business (and new version of Windows doesn't support the outdated version of winzip on the internet). Now you may think: what an idiot, what's the use of this. Then I used PeaZip to encrypt and used winzip to open.

When I was checking zip archive programs for said purpose, I password-encrypted a file with winzip and then used two other program (I think one was PeaZip) to open and it worked. Let me explain one concern I had with NppCrypt. I actually did look into NppCrypt when I was doing my own Google searching. Just about all of the other text editors that compete with Notepad++ also do encryption.
#PEAZIP PASSWORD PROTECT FULL#
No need for a full on word processor to do something as easy as encrypt a single text document. Notepad++ has a encryption plugin called "NppCrypt" just go to the plugin's drop down and pick "Plugin's Admin" and do a search for it.
